Pourau Road Erosion Stabilisation Planting

Biodiversity Project

Hikuwai, Tairāwhiti

About this project

To mitigate the negative impacts on the region, Pourau Incorporation provided its whenua (Katikati Block) for the construction of an emergency SH35 bypass road.

Despite the sides of the bypass road being hydra seeded in grass, Pourau Inc are proposing to fence off and plant predominantly native species on three zones of the the steep downhill side (followed by the uphill embankment at a later stage) in an attempt to stabilize the ground and minimise erosion from rain and the impacts of stock.
