Tokomaru B10C
Biodiversity Project

About this project
Tokomaru B10C is a Māori-owned private land block on the Northern end of Tokomaru Akau. This land block of approximately 21 ha includes approximately 17 ha of existing pine forest ready for harvest, approx 30 years old.
The block was originally planted as required by the Gisborne District Council in order to obtain a permit for a dwelling at the bottom of the section.
The pine trees are now ready to be harvested and at risk of erosion. The cost to harvest and replanting is not financially viable. We would like to transition back to native forest. There are small areas of existing natives in the gullies which could act as seed banks.
