About this project

The Women's Native Tree Project Trust has been active in te tairawhiti for 33 years. Our kaupapa is to recloak Papatuanuku back in native flora. We collect and grow from ecosourced seed from te tairawhiti and gift our rakau to community spaces like schools, marae, council reserves.

In 2022 we gifted over 7500 trees to our local community. Our nursery is based in turanganui a kiwa and welcomes community groups with regular workshops and class sessions. We share all our knowledge and experience with existing and new native tree growers.

With funding from Trust Tairawhiti we also have 2 high school students learning how to grow native trees. We need ongoing funding to pay wages for the nursery manager and could increase the number of interns we are training. We also need support seed collecting as that involves alot of travel and time. This could be money or actual seeds.
